On the left I have pictures of some of Roy's pictures of his house after the storm. These pictures were taken as another crew from one of the churches worked on it. Their job was to shovel all the mud out of the house! The waters got so high that it left tons of mud in the house (in the top level!). Check out the ceiling fans drooping. And look at all the debris they piled up at the street. They had to shovel the mud out the windows. I still cannot believe how far this house has come along.

Among these pictures, you can see the vast improvements made inside. Most of the repairs inside had already been done. We mainly cleaned up and organized the "stuff" on the property. We found a rat's nest in what used to be the pool. Pictured are the tiny babies which I captured and disposed of. The momma got away (which was fine with me!) We removed the old vinyl siding and put up black sheeting to prepare for new vinyl siding. We made a few repairs inside, including this furnace door pictured. This was nothing but a hole in the wall before. Roy showed me how to frame the hole and put a door in place. All the framing and wood was material that Roy salvaged from destroyed homes. All it needs now is a little paint job, which Roy said he could handle!

Roy bought us a watermelon on the last day. He's the one waving at the camera. I'm gonna miss him.

This is Roy Herron's house. Roy and his wife are handicapped and desperately needed help cleaning up and repairing their house. Their house reminded me a little of Sanford & Son and it probably looked like that even before the storm. Roy collected LOTS of stuff......boats, lawn mowers, rusty stuff, etc. We tried to throw as much of it away as possible, but he had a hard time parting with most of it. We at least "organized" the stuff he wanted to keep in piles. Roy was one of the nicest men I've met. He was very humble and thankful for what we were doing. He talked to each of us throughout the week and had lots of praise for us and our families. It felt good to be able to help him.
